Green Apartments

Move For Free knows a lot of apartment owners want to be more environmentally friendly. Kermit the Frog may have said it isn’t easy being green, but it honestly isn’t that hard. It just takes a little effort and planning. Here are a couple of tips to help you go green.

If it’s nice outside, open the windows. This may not apply for summers in Texas (when it’s 105 outside like it is right now), but springs and winters in Texas and the south are perfect candidates for fresh air from open windows. Plus, opening your windows and turning off the air conditioner will help save you money.

Speaking of the AC, set your thermostat to 78-80 degrees while you’re home. This is the most efficient setting for the air conditioner. When you leave, don’t turn the AC off. That means your system has to work overtime to get rid of all the hot air and humidity when you get back. Instead, set the thermostat around 83 degrees or so when you’re not home.

Does your apartment offer recycling? This is something you can ask about while looking for apartments for rent. Some apartment communities do offer recycling as part of what the city provides, and others have private recycling efforts. For instance, my apartment community recently installed a recycling dumpster and will provide recycling cans for your apartment if requested.

I hope you will find your own ways to go green and help protect the planet.
